Since the year it was founded (1948) until now, over 9000 Romanian specialists and over 450 specialists with foreign citizenship have successfully graduated from the Faculty of Petroleum and Gas Engineering.

Due to the international recognition of diplomas, our faculty graduates are in high demand in the labor market around the world. They thus operate in the oil and gas industry, in production, services and research, within prestigious companies in our country and abroad.

The high level of job security and the high salaries in the oil and gas industry, make the Faculty of Petroleum and Gas Engineering tempting, thus attracting more and more candidates each year.

Currently, due to the global shortage of highly trained specialists in the field, the guarantee of a secure job becomes real, thus we can state that no graduate of the Faculty of Petroleum and Gas Engineering will be unemployed.

The graduates of the Faculty of Petroleum and Gas Engineering carry out their professional activity within prestigious oil and gas companies both from our country and from abroad. They can work in various places on-shore (on land) or off-shore (on marine platforms), but they can also have careers in research, in education or in higher education institutions, the latter requiring Master's and Doctoral studies.

Many of the partner companies of our faculty offer scholarships to both students in years II, III and IV, Bachelor’s level, and to Master students. These companies also offer well-paid internships and temporary jobs during the students’ vacations. Periodically, a series of actions are organized by these companies to recruit future graduates. The diplomas awarded are recognized in Europe (European Engineer - EUR ENG).

HISTORY

By the education reform of 1948 (Decree no. 175/1948 and the Decision of the Ministry of Public Education no. 263327 / 25.10.1948 - published in the Official Gazette no. 249 / 26.10.1948) the Bucharest Institute of Oil and Gas was created with the Faculty of Drilling - Production (later called the Faculty of Crude Oil and Gas Exploitation) and the Faculty of Crude Oil Processing. In 1950, three more were added to the two faculties, namely: the Faculty of Geology and the Exploitation of Oil and Gas Deposits, the Faculty of Petroleum Machinery and Equipment and the Faculty of Economics and Organization of the Oil Industry.

In 1955 the Faculty of Geology and Exploitation of Oil and Gas Deposits was transferred to the Institute of Geology and Mining Technology in Bucharest, the graduates of 1956 and 1957 from this faculty finishing their studies at the Faculty of Exploitation of Oil and Gas Deposits - Geology and Exploitation of Oil and Gas Deposits section.

In 1957 the Faculty of Technical Geology is transferred again from the Institute of Geology and Mining Technology of Bucharest to the Institute of Oil and Gas, the latter changing its name to the Institute of Oil, Gas and Geology Bucharest.

Starting with the academic year 1968/1969, the Faculty of Exploitation of Oil and Gas Deposits changes its name to the Faculty of Oil Drilling and Exploitation of Oil and Gas Deposits. The same year (September 15, 1968), a full-time education program training assistant engineers opens within the Faculty of Oil Drilling and Exploitation of Oil and Gas Deposits.

From 1972 the faculty was transferred to the Petroleum Institute from Ploieşti, at the beginning only with the 1st year of study, and from 1974 with the entire student body. The Faculty of Technical Geology remained within the University of Bucharest.

Since December 28 1973, decree no. 702/1973 united the Institute of Oil and Gas from Bucharest with the Petroleum Institute from Ploieşti under the name of Petroleum and Gas Institute of Ploieşti, with the entire didactic-productive activity taking place on the oil industrial platform from Ploieşti. The Institute had the following three faculties: Well Drilling and Exploitation of Oil and Gas Deposits; Oil and Gas Technology and Chemistry; Technological Equipment.

In the academic year 1978/1979, the evening education program for assistant engineers is set up within the Faculty of Well Drilling and Exploitation of Oil and Gas Deposits.

Since 1991, the TECHNICAL GEOLOGY, late called GEOLOGY OF PETROLEUM RESOURCES program is re-opened within the Faculty of Well Drilling and Exploitation of Oil and Gas Deposits, by the address of the Romanian Ministry of Education and Science no. 36329/9 May 1991 and the order of the ministry no. 5599/8 May 1991 and Annex 34 to this order.

Starting with the academic year 1991/1992, the Faculty of Well Drilling of Drilling and Exploitation of Oil and Gas Deposits changes its name to the Faculty of Well Drilling and Exploitation of Deposits.

The Decision of the Romanian Government no. 294, published in the Official Gazette no. 130/25 June 1997, sets up legally the undergraduate program OIL AND GAS TRANSPORTATION, STORAGE AND DISTRIBUTION (full-time program for engineers, 5 years). Subsequently, the education program changed its name to HYDROCARBONS TRANSPORTATION, STORAGE AND DISTRIBUTION.

Starting with the academic year 2000 - 2001, within the undergraduate program Well Drilling and Exploitation of Oil and Gas Deposits, part-time courses have been organized, initially lasting 6 years.

In 2002, the undergraduate program Well Drilling and Exploitation of Oil and Gas Deposits changed its name to PETROLEUM AND GAS ENGINEERING (see the Official Gazette of Romania, part I, no. 36 / 21.I.2002).

The Faculty of Well Drilling and Exploitation of Deposits changed its name into the Faculty of PETROLEUM AND GAS ENGINEERING in 2003 (see the Official Gazette of Romania, part I, no. 466 / 30.VI.2003).

Starting with the academic year 2005 - 2006, at the Faculty of PETROLEUM AND GAS ENGINEERING, the undergraduate studies have been organized in accordance with the Bologna process, with a duration of 4 years, both full-time and part-time.

By now, over 9700 specialists have been trained within the Faculty of PETROLEUM AND GAS ENGINEERING, out of which over 350 were foreign citizens who have been carrying out their activity in various sectors of the oil and gas industry, in research and design institutes, in education, in governmental and non-governmental institutions, etc. We mention, at random, some of these countries: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Burma, Bulgaria, Chile, China, Colombia, Cuba, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, India, Jordan, Lebanon, Greece, Congo, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Mexico, Madagascar, Morocco, Peru, Germany, United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Pakistan, Poland, DPR Korea, Syria, Sudan, Tunisia, Hungary, Vietnam, Yemen etc.

On the other hand, a large number of graduates work abroad, which illustrates the good training and appreciation they enjoy. The diplomas awarded have been recognized worldwide. During its meeting of 23-24 May 1997, The Board of Directors of FEANI (Federation Europeenne D'Associations Nationales D'Ingenieurs) ratified the list of Romanian technical faculties proposed by the European Monitoring Committee of the FEANI register (EMC), a list that also includes the Faculty of Well Drilling and Exploitation of Deposits (currently PETROLEUM AND GAS ENGINEERING), so it was included in the FEANI Index. Therefore, the graduates of the faculty, through the Romanian National Monitoring Committee (RoNMC) within AGIR, can be registered in the FEANI Register and obtain the title of European Engineer EURING based on the conditions imposed by FEANI.
